Bugling Bull Elk
Dec4bugler
December 4, 2007
This is a bigger study of a bugling bull elk that I
had done a smaller version of a few months ago.
I am looking for the right pose to use in a big
painting with a harem(cows).
I used black and white acrylic gesso to underpaint
the entire canvas, then used thin acrylic glazes to
set the underpainting. Then I finished it using
alkyd oil paint.
Probably about 12 hours total.
Listed on Ebay.

Painting In A Day Western Art Buffalo Bull John T Jones
November 30 Walking Buffalo Bull.
This painting was started with black and white
acrylic gesso, then finished with alkyd paint.
First I did a charcoal sketch. Then thin black
acrylic paint to set the drawing and get the
anatomy close and stained the entire canvas with
regular black acrylic.
Then I used black and white acrylic gesso as a full
underpaint.
Then I finished the painting the next day with
a fairly limited alkyd palette.
Total time, about 10 hours.
Listed on Ebay.

Painting In A Day Landscape Creek Scene
We just returned from vacation in Estes Park
Colorado. We went into Rocky Mountain National Park every day to enjoy the mountains, creeks, and wildlife, mostly elk.
I really like the creeks(they are called rivers there).
We really enjoyed watching and photographing the elk rut.
This scene is Big Thompson River. It is on a 12"
x 16" gessoed masonite panel.
I just listed it on Ebay.

Painting A Day Buffalo Bull
This is the 37th Painting A Day that I have done.
Due to unforseen circumstances etc, I haven't been
painting for a while. But, now I am back at it and
hope to be able to continue to do at least five small
paintings a week. Most of them will probably be
studies for bigger paintings.
This one is listed on Ebay.

Painting A Day Burial Scaffold
June 16
8"x 10" Oil on Gesso Panel
This is a study for a large painting I am planning. It may
involve a couple more studies before starting the big one
of a white buffalo image near a burial scaffold with some
images in the clouds. I have done some similar paintings in
the past with the idea of the brave going to the happy
hunting grounds.
Listed on Ebay.
